Is it better to go to HYP or other Ivies on financial aid or on Singapore government scholarships? I know that HYP are very generous in their aid if you can’t pay for it, but won’t you also have to take a loan?

A decision whether or not to go on a scholarship will depend a lot on whether you like the job you will have when you return and whether you are interested in studying what the stat board or ministry you’re attached to wants you to study. Financial aid gives greater flexibility for when you graduate, although you may have to pay a portion if your family can afford it. Many students give too little thought to the career they will have after taking a bonded scholarship because they are too focused on what university they want to go to. On the other hand a bonded government scholarship means you have a job waiting for you when you graduate.
