How many people take the HSC? Are there alternatives?

Does everyone in Australia take it?

Around 70 000 people sit the HSC each year across NSW and the ACT. It is mainly restricted to these two states. However, with the national curriculum slowly being implemented, courses all around Australia are slowly beginning to look more and more similar. Some alternatives to the HSC have become popular in recent years with the IB being adopted by a rapidly increasing number of institutions.
