Hi I’m quite an able student who didn’t get a prefect role for this year. But I have good EC as I’m currently doing the Fuke of Edinburgh gold award. Is it still possible for me to get into top USA universities?
Definitely don’t need to be a prefect. It’s certainly helpful for demonstrating leadership ability, but by no means the be-all and end-all.

Hi RefSeph,
Completely possible for you to get into top US schools without a prefect position. Very much depends on
- Your standardized test scores (SAT/ACT)
- What your ECs are, and how seriously you’ve become involved in them
- Outside awards or recognition (for academic or EC stuff)
- How you have performed academically in school and exams, and what academic program(s) you’re engaged in (Cambridge exams, IB, AP, etc)
- Other ‘intangibles’ (including your background)
