What is it like to study Environmental Studies in Yale-NUS?
In terms of professors, we have a good spread: social scientists, natural scientists, humanities professors, etc. Many of them are bright, young and new to the field. It is good, in a sense that we have promising faculty. I don’t like “natural” part of ES, but enjoy social part and humanities. For me, ES is so good. One concern is that I am not sure whether professors are gonna be here for a long time. The college is very new and not that established yet; so, they might decide to move to more prestigious universities. Another concern is that there is not so much variety inside the field, maybe 1-2 for every subfield.Nonetheless, it is a very cross-disciplinary course, and other, more narrow disciplines can be incorporated into it. ES is one of the strongest majors in Yale-NUS. I see it as a type of PPE, underpinned by a particular philosophy.
