Is it difficult for an international student from Europe or America to adapt to a Yale-NUS and/or Singaporean environment?

Yes and no. Yes, because Singapore is very different from European and American countries culturally, socially and geographically. For a person unfamiliar with this region, it will take time to get used to the new environment. At the same, the answer is also no – because you will not be alone in facing your problems. There are always people around who have struggled in the past or are still struggling with very same issues that you have. You can cooperate, ask for advice and, together, smoothly navigate the adaptation process.

The school also tries its best to help the students to adapt. There is an orientation program which is quite effective, during which freshmen receive a lot of support from the university and its upperclassmen. Thanks to the diversity at Yale-NUS, practically everyone can find “soulmates”: people with whom they can strongly empathise.
