(India) Which are the different IIT campuses? Is one better over another?

I am interested in potentially going to IIT and I was curious if the campuses are different? What are the campuses, and is one better than another?

The Indian Institutes of Technology are autonomous engineering institutions that are governed by the rules and regulations laid down by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) established in 1945. Every year, a million students appear for the IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination); out of which about 10,000 get admission in the IITs. There are a number of IIT campuses around India and every year or two new campuses are inaugurated. Here is a general ranking of the top 10 IIT campuses in India

  1. IIT Bombay
  2. IIT Delhi
  3. IIT Kharagpur
  4. IIT Kanpur
  5. IIT Roorkee
  6. IIT Madras (Chennai)
  7. IIT Guwahati
  8. IIT Hydrabad
  9. IIT Gandhinagar

Eventhough they all are under one umbrella. Some branches, for example IIT Bombay is famous for its IT stream and access ( like stanford as it is very close to silicon valley ) ( eventhough the silicon valley in India is in Bangalore ).
Depending on the stream or divison of enigneering you are interested in, selecting to its corresponding branch would be advantageous.
