Do first years and second years have much inter-mingling?

This question depends on the sort of person you are. If you go to the halls (which generally are only for first years), and don’t join many clubs or do extra curricular activities then I would say no. However, if you study a degree where not all of your papers are at the same level as the year you are studying then you will bump into students of other ages. This is the case for me as I study a conjoint degree and made some great first year mates whilst I was in second year. Also as a second year, I ended up making a first year gym partner, so we became very close and I also met his friends and went into the halls with him on the odd occasion. So overall I would say there is some mingling if you are an outgoing person or already have friends in other year groups, but the non-campus style uni does not facilitate this sort of interaction.
