I’m considering a chemistry course in National University of Singapore. What could I expect from the program?
Glad to hear that you have an interest in my university!
You can expect it to be an intellectually-challenging and enriching experience! The curriculum is rigorous, covering many areas of chemistry such as inorganic, organic, physical, analytical etc.
For the first two years, you will study a common set of core modules to build your foundation in the core principles of chemistry.
NUS chemistry also gives you options in designing your own academic roadmap. In the third and fourth year, you can choose advanced chemistry modules that you are passionate about. There are 4 specialisations: materials chemistry, medicinal chemistry and environment & energy specialization. Some students, however, do not choose to specialise and graduate without a specialisation. This is perfectly fine as well!
You will also have the opportunity to pursue my interest outside of chemistry eg. minor in forensic science.
The department also has top-notch lab facilities and equipment to allow ample hands-on learning. These are valuable experiences which can come in handy at workplaces in chemical-related industries.
Let me know if you have any further questions, I’ll be happy to help!
