I take 5 NCEA Level 3 subjects (calc, english, bio, chem, economics) currently.
Each of them offers 20+ credits except for biology which offers 19 credits. If I got all E credits this year or all E credits minus one external standard for example, would I be able to achieve a 99.95 ATAR?

It’s not possible to say with 100% certainty, as Australian universities are very secretive regarding the ATAR conversions. However, having said that, if you are doing 5 subjects, and ~100 credits and you get 95+ with Excellence then you stand a good chance of getting a 99.95 ATAR - especially with the subjects that you are doing.
I’ve been doing a bit of research on this, and from what I’ve found:
- An ATAR is calculated from your best 90 credits
- It will include every English credit you receive, even if you have better credits from other subjects (because in Australia English is always included in the calculation)
- Externals have a slightly higher weighting than internals
If you are aiming for a 99.95, you’re cutting it quite close with only taking around 100 credits. I would talk to your Head of Academics at school, and look at enrolling in a couple of extra standards and self-studying them, so it doesn’t cut so close to the 90 needed.
